Men's Tennis drops NACC match against MSOE

JACKSON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team suffered its first NACC setback of the season, falling to MSOE, 6-3, Friday at the Pleasant Valley Tennis & Fitness Club in Jackson, Wis.

Doubles play proved to be the difference in the match as MSOE began the day with a 3-0 lead. The Raiders won No. 1 doubles by an 8-3 score, took No. 2 doubles 8-2 and completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Falcons played much better in singles play, splitting the six matches with the Raiders for a 6-3 final. Three of the six matches went to a third set tiebreaker, as the Falcons picked up two of those three wins and also gained a straight sets victory at No. 6 singles.

It was senior Steven Fritz (Berwyn, Ill.) who rolled to his No. 6 singles win for CUW, gaining a 6-3, 6-2 victory.

Also gaining a win for the Falcons was the reigning NACC Student-Athlete of the Week, senior Benjamin Nommensen (Waupaca, Wis.). Nommensen and his opponent played a true three-set matchup, as he rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles.

The final win of singles play for CUW came at the No. 1 spot as sophomore Trevor Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) gained a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (7-3) victory. The other three matches went to MSOE, including a third set tiebreak at No. 4 singles.

The Falcons are back in action Saturday with a pair of home NACC matches. CUW welcomes Wisconsin Lutheran and Aurora to the CUW Tennis Courts Saturday, with the matchup against the Warriors beginning at 10 a.m.
