CUW's Harrington, Spransy capture NAC doubles title

NAC Individual Tournament Results

MADISON, Wis.--
Meagan Harrington and Julie Spransyovercame a 7-4 deficit and fought off match point to defeat Shae Beckwith and Laura Olsen of Edgewood College, 9-7, to win the Northern Athletics Conference Doubles Championship at Nielsen Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

CUW's doubles duo took an early 1-0 lead before Beckwith and Olsen responded and took a 2-1 lead before they increased their advantage to 5-2 in the early going. Harrington and Spransy traded points until they found themselves on the brink of extinction facing match point at 7-5.

The duo, who finished the NAC regular season with the highest winning percentage at .900 (9-1) among doubles teams, dug deep and won their first championship as a doubles team.

Harrington (sophomore, Kingsford, Mich.) and Spransy (junior, Brown Deer, Wis.) are no strangers to doubles championship tennis, however, as they each won a doubles title during last season's NAC Individual Tournament.

Last fall Harrington won the Doubles Flight A Championship with Kaitlyn Strehlow (now at WLC) , while Spransy won the Doubles Flight B Championship with sophomore Phoebe Milner (Green Bay, Wis.).

The Falcons have won a share of four NAC regular season championships in the conference's six year history and own a share of two-consecutive titles. CUW has now won the doubles championship, or won a flight, for the sixth-straight year.

Individual Tournament Results: Meagan Harrington reached her first-ever finals in the singles portion of the NAC Individual Tournament. Unfortunately, she fell in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to Kaitlyn Strehlow (Wisconsin Lutheran College). It was the second time this season Harrington lost a singles match to Strehlow, the other being the regular season finale on Sept. 27.
