Women’s Tennis Looks to Win Outright NAC Title Tuesday

MEQUON, Wis. - Playing for an undefeated season and a Northern Athletics Conference outright title; the Concordia University Wisconsin women's tennis team hosts Wisconsin Lutheran College on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at North Shore Country Club.

The Falcons (10-0, 10-0 NAC) have won at least a share of four previous conference titles in the past five seasons and are looking to win their third-consecutive championship, which would tie a league record.

Over the past six years CUW has won an impressive .946 percent of its NAC matches and finished unblemished on two previous occasions - 10-0 in 2007 and 5-0 in 2006. However, with a Falcons win they won't capture the coveted NCAA automatic qualifying bid, which is determined by the NAC Team Tournament held on May 1 in Kohler, Wis.

Four different Falcons have earned at least seven singles victories and are led by junior Jaclyn Ward's (Franklin, Wis.) perfect 10-0 record. Freshman Emily McCormick (Waukesha, Wis.) is also undefeated in singles play with a 7-0 record. CUW is a striking 51-9 (.850) in singles competition.

The doubles pair of sophomore Meagan Harrington (Kingsford, Mich.) and junior Julie Spransy (Brown Deer, Wis.) have cruised to a 9-0 record. Overall, the Falcons are 25-5 (.833) in doubles play.

WLC (9-4, 8-1 NAC) has won six of its last seven matches, including four 9-0 victories. Emily Pearson and Kaitlyn Strehlow lead the Warriors with a 10-2 and 9-1 singles records, respectively. They also have two doubles teams that have earned 10 victories this season.

CUW returns to play on Friday when it travels to Kalamazoo, Mich., for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals on Friday at 10 a.m.
