Women’s Tennis Edges Lakeland to Stay Undefeated

MEQUON, Wis. - In their closest match of the season the Concordia University Wisconsin women's tennis team edged Lakeland College, 5-4, on Saturday morning during Northern Athletics Conference play at North Shore Country Club. CUW was without #1 singles player Meagan Harrington so her teammates had to move up one spot. Down a player, Concordia was forced to default at #6 singles and #3 doubles.

The Falcons (10-0, 10-0 NAC) captured four singles points and won one doubles point to stay undefeated this season heading into their crucial dual with Wisconsin Lutheran (9-1) on Tuesday. A WLC victory would drop the Falcons into a 3 way tie for the title as Edgewood has completed their regular season at 10-1.

Junior Jaclyn Ward (Franklin, Wis.) and freshman Emily McCormick remained the lone CUW singles players to stay unblemished this season. Ward downed April Schmitz 6-7 (1-8), 6-4, 6-2, while McCormick cruised over Catherine Campion 6-2, 6-1.

The doubles pair of junior Julie Spransy (Brown Deer, Wis.) and sophomore Catherine Schotte (Pratt, Kan.) earned the Falcons lone doubles point after winning 8-0.
