Freeland lands NACC Women's Soccer Weekly Award

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer team had its best week of the 2016 season last week. The Falcons won two key NACC games, moving them up the league standings. Senior Abigail Freeland played a key role in those wins and was named the NACC Women's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Freeland (Grafton, Wis.) had her best match in a 2-0 win over Dominican. She played a part in each of the Falcons two scores, starting with a goal on a free kick from 19 yards out. She would later add an assist with a corner kick, setting up a Kayla Schlosser (Germantown, Wis.) goal.

Freeland also helped anchor a Falcons defense that shutout the Stars, a team that ranks second in the NACC in goals per game, averaging 2.88 per league contest. The senior defender led the Falcons to a win over Alverno earlier in the week as well, assisting on a score in a 10-1 win.

The Falcons will be back in action Wednesday with a home match against Marian at 4 p.m. It will be one of three home contest for CUW this week, with Concordia Chicago and the University of Chicago set to visit over the weekend.
