Women's Soccer celebrates Senior Day with outright NACC Title

MEQUON, Wis. – NACC Regular Season Champions. That is what the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer Team can now call themselves as they clinched the title outright Wednesday with a 4-0 Senior Day win over Lakeland. The win gave the Falcons an unblemished 10-0-0 league mark and their first-ever NACC Regular Season title (the league started in 2006).

THE BASICS

Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 4, Lakeland 0
Location: Fitting Field – Mequon, Wis.
Records: Concordia Wisconsin 14-2-2, 10-0-0 NACC; Lakeland 4-16-0, 1-9-0 NACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Falcons got on the board early with a goal from senior Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) just 2:57 into the match. Senior Carley Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) started the play with a cross to freshman Kayla Schlosser (Germantown, Wis.) who got the ball to Ciesielczyk on one touch for the score.

- In the ninth minute it was junior Halie Schieffer (Belgium, Wis.) who scored to put the Falcons up 2-0 on an unassisted goal.

- The final two scores came from Pfannerstill, both coming in the first half as well. The first was assisted by Schlosser, while the second came off a pass from sophomore Rachel Suarez (Mt. Prospect, Ill.). Pfannerstill ran her goal total to 17 on the season, a new career-high for the senior.

- The Falcons once again dominated possession, outshooting Lakeland, 42-1. Lakeland did not get its shot until late in the match and that was turned away by CUW keeper, sophomore Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.). Ortiz and junior Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) split time, with Worthing getting the win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The Falcons highest finish in the NACC regular season was second, which came last season, before the championship this year. The Men's Soccer team also wrapped up a NACC Regular Season Championship on Wednesday, the first time both titles were won by the same school in the same season.

- It was also Senior Day for the Falcons as Ciesielcyzk, Pfannerstill, Tehani Dee (West Bend, Wis.), Christine Hoppe (Grafton, Wis.), Krista Oelhafen (Allenton, Wis.) and Jaclyn Theune (Oostburg, Wis.) were all honored before the match.

- This senior class has had an impressive run, and it was fitting to celebrate them on the same day they clinched their first NACC Regular Season championship. The seniors have won 53 matches in their career thus far, with at least 14 wins in three of four seasons now.

- The multi-goal effort gave Pfannerstill 17 for the season, which is tied for second in the NACC. She also ranks second with 43 points.

UP NEXT

- The Falcons will have a first round bye in the NACC Tournament and will play the lowest remaining seed next Wednesday at 2 p.m. CUW will face either Edgewood, Benedictine or Aurora in the matchup at Fitting Field.
