Women's Soccer last remaining NACC unbeaten after rout of Dominican

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin and Dominican University entered Saturday's NACC tilt with unblemished records in conference play this season. Only the Falcons left Fitting Field with an unblemished league mark as they routed the Stars by a 4-0 score. The win means CUW controls its destiny for a regular season conference championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- It was freshman Kayla Schlosser (Germantown, Wis.) who gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead with two goals scored less than three minutes apart in the opening half. Schlosser took a corner from senior Jaclyn Theune (Oostburg, Wis.) and made the score 1-0 in the 32nd minute, while adding her second goal off a pass from sophomore McKenna Kowalski (Milwaukee, Wis.) in the 35th minute.

- After the break, senior Carley Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) took over the scoring duties with two scores roughly five minutes apart. Pfannerstill's first score was unassisted off a scramble in front of the net, while her second in the 67th minute came off a pass from senior Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.). She now has 13 goals this season and 52 for her career.

- The Falcons had a dominant 24-9 edge in shots as junior keeper Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) made three saves for the shutout. Worthing had the save of the match late in the second half as she stopped a Dominican penalty kick to preserve the shutout.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The Falcons have played seven league matches this season and have posted shutouts in six of them. CUW has allowed just one goal in over 630 minutes of conference play this season.

- A reason for the dominance thus far in league action has been the play of the backline. Once again the group of seniors Krista Oelhafen (Allenton, Wis.) and Tehani Dee (Slinger, Wis.), juniors Abigail Freeland (Grafton, Wis.) and Faith Palmreuter (Frankenmuth, Mich.) and freshman Josie Dombrowski (Bartlett, Ill.) continues to step up in each and every match.

- If the Falcons can take care of business over their final three conference matches they will pick up their first NACC Championship. The league began in 2006 and has been controlled by Aurora since its inception, but CUW has a chance to capture a title outright with a strong finish.
