Single match shot records fall in Women's Soccer win over Wisconsin Lutheran

MEQUON, Wis. – The shots were coming off the feet of Concordia Women's Soccer players left and right on Saturday at Fitting Field. The Falcons set a program record with 64 shots in a 6-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran in the team's Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener. Senior Carley Pfannerstill also set the program's new individual mark for shot's in a match with 14.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- CUW controlled possession throughout the match, firing 29 shots in the first half to lead 2-0 and adding 35 shots after the break for the 6-0 final.

- The Falcons took a little while to get going as the 1-0 lead didn't come until the 20th minute when freshman Nicole Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) netted her first career collegiate goal. She took a pass from Pfannerstill and sailed it over the Warriors keeper for the Falcons lead.

- Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) would make the score 2-0 just 36 seconds later as she took a pass from freshman Kayla Schlosser (Germantown, Wis.) and fired from 18 yards out, landing her goal in the top left corner.

- The second half was all Falcons as Pfannerstill started the scoring with an unassisted breakaway goal just 2:18 into the half. Pfannerstill would go on to finish the match with six points as she assisted on the Falcons next goal, a strike from junior Halie Schieffer (Belgium, Wis.). Schieffer now has two goals in two matches this season.

- Senior Jaclyn Theune (Oostburg, Wis.) netted her first goal of the season in the 59th minute on a penalty kick, making the score 5-0. Schlosser would then record the Falcons final score, coming off a corner kick by junior Abigail Freeland (Grafton, Wis.).

- A trio of Falcons goalkeepers split time on Saturday and none were too busy. Starting goalie Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) picked up the win and faced the only Warriors shot on goal during the match. Sophomore Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.) and freshman Hannah Arrigoni (Rice Lake, Wis.) each saw time in the second half, neither facing a shot.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- Pfannerstill is now up to 45 career goals as she just keeps rolling. She has 11 points over her last two matches and ranks third in the NACC in goals (6) and points (18).

- Schlosser finished the match with 10 shots and she and Pfannerstill combined for 24 of the Falcons 64.

- CUW is now 15-0-0 in the Ryan Middendorf (2003-present) era against Wisconsin Lutheran. The Falcons have outscored the Warriors by a 70-7 score during that time.

THE OPPOSITION

- The Warriors keeper Rachel Sebald was plenty busy Saturday as she made 27 saves, including several very impressive plays.

- The Falcons will take to the road Wednesday for a non-conference match at St. Norbert. The match between CUW and the Green Knights is set for a 6:30 p.m. start.
