Pfannerstill nets 50th career goal, Falcons win school-record eighth straight

MILWAUKEE – Senior Carley Pfannerstill became the third player in the Ryan Middendorf era (2003-present) to reach 50 career goals as she helped lead the Concordia University Wisocnsin Women's Soccer team to an 11-0 win over Alverno Wednesday. Pfannerstill had two goals in the match, as nine Falcons scored in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Falcons scored in the sixth minute to take a 1-0 lead on the game-winning score by senior Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.). Her score was one of four for the Falcons that was unassisted on Wednesday.

- CUW would add four more goals in the opening half, including two in the 29th minute from sophomore McKenna Kowalski (Milwaukee, Wis.). It was the first multi-goal match of Kowalski's career. Junior Halie Schieffer (Belgium Wis.) assisted on the first score, while freshman Kayla Schlosser (Germantown, Wis.) had the helper on Kowalski's second score.

- Freshman Mikayla Ross (Oshkosh, Wis.) netted her first career collegiate score in the 31st minute, which was followed by Schieffer's third score of the season in the 33rd minute. Sophomore Santina Bianco (Iron Mountain, Mich.), who had a career-high four points, assisted on both Ross and Schieffer's score.

- Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) picked up career goal number 49 in the 49th minute and would add her 50th nearly 10 minutes later, both goals going unassisted. In between those scores was an unassisted score from Schlosser.

- Junior Taylor Micolicheck (Green Bay, Wis.) picked up her first career goal in the second half off an assist from junior Kayla Severinsen (Schaumburg, Ill.). Sophomore Breanne Thomas (Oconomowoc, Wis.) then made the score 10-0 off an assist from Ross, while Bianco put in her first career collegiate goal later in the second half. Severinsen and sophomore Rachel Suarez (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) picked up assists on the final score.

- For the second straight match the Falcons didn't face a shot from their opponent. CUW totaled 43 in the match, 26 of which went on goal. Sophomore Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.) and junior Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) split time in net for the Falcons, Ortiz picking up the win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The eighth straight win for the Falcons is a new school record, surpassing last year's mark of seven.

- Pfannerstill became the third player in the Middendorf era to reach 50 career goals, joining Lauren Straehler and Becky Ott. Straehler scored 58 from 2009-12, while Ott had 51 from 2007-10. Pfannerstill also now has 130 career points and is two away from breaking Straehler's modern-era record of 132.

- The 11 goals were the most in a match for CUW since a 12-goal outburst against Maranatha Baptist Bible on September 11, 2012. Pfannerstill scored the second and third goals of her career in that match.

- CUW has given up just one goal in 541-plus minutes of conference action this season. The Falcons ability to control possession has been impressive thus far in league play.
