Schlosser's golden goal gives Women's Soccer top seed in NACC Tournament

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Kayla Schlosser might be in her rookie season with the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer team, but she is already showing her ability to deliver big-time goals. Schlosser netted her second overtime winner of the year, giving the Falcons a 1-0 win over Concordia University Chicago Saturday. The score also secured the No. 1 seed for the Falcons in the NACC Tournament, and assured at least a share of the regular season title. The Falcons can have the regular season championship all to themselves with a win or draw against Lakeland Wednesday.

THE BASICS

- Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 1, Concordia Chicago 0
- Location: Concordia Stadium – River Forest, Ill.
- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 13-1-2, 9-0-0 NACC; Concordia Chicago 7-10-0, 4-5-0 NACC

HOW IT HAPPENED

- There wasn't much to tell before the Schlosser (Germantown, Wis.) score with just 1:46 remaining in overtime. The only score of the match was unassisted.

- The Falcons dominated the shot totals in this one, firing 18 compared to just four for the Cougars. CUC did not record a shot on goal until the overtime session, which was stopped by sophomore Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.)

- The Falcons only shot on goal in overtime was the score by Schlosser, which was her 11th goal of the season and fourth-game winner.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The Falcons secured a share of their first-ever NACC Championship (the league dates back to 2006). Aurora had won or shared the first nine NACC titles, winning eight outright and splitting with Edgewood in 2013.

- A win or tie against Lakeland Wednesday would clinch the outright title for the Falcons. The only way CUW can share for the conference title is with a loss to Lakeland and having Dominican win their final two matches over Edgewood and Benedictine.

- Ortiz has had an impressive sophomore campaign for the Falcons. She leads the conference in save percentage (.852) and goals against average (0.49). She has given up just four goals in nine matches and owns a 7-0-1 record. The shutout was the third of the season for Ortiz.

UP NEXT

- CUW will be back at it tomorrow for a non-conference matchup against UW-Oshkosh. The Titans (North) and Falcons (Central) are each ranked eighth in their respective regions by the NSCAA. Action is set to get underway in Oshkosh at 2 p.m. The matchup against Lakeland that could clinch the outright NACC Regular Season Championship is Wednesday at 3:30 at Fitting Field.
