
Smith Finishes Fourth at Pete Willson Invite
WHEATON, Ill. - Day two of the 83rd annual Pete Willson Invite saw senior Peyton Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) represent the Falcons in the championship bracket after going a perfect 3-0 on day one to advance to the semifinals of the heavyweight division.
In his first match of the day, Smith faced Josh Woodrey from Augustana College. Despite a strong effort, Smith was defeated by decision and dropped to the consolation bracket.
Smith quickly bounced back in the consolation semifinals, securing a second-period win over Mount Union's Steven Marra at the 2:41 mark, improving his season record to 13-6 and advancing to the third-place match.
In the third-place bout, Smith battled Myles Johnson from Ohio Northern. Despite a determined performance, Smith was pinned at the 6:22 mark, ending his run for the day.
Smith finished the tournament with 18.5 individual points, and as a team, the Falcons accumulated 20.5 points, securing 24th place out of 30 teams.
Next up, the Falcons will compete in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Wrestling Showcase, hosted by Lakeland, on February 7th.
