Wrestling Battles at the 60th Annual North Central Invitational

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin wrestling team competed in a loaded field at the 60th annual North Central Invitational on Saturday. The Falcons finished in 11th place as a team with 17.5 points. Augsburg won the team title with 165.5 points. The Blue and White had nine individuals competing.

Freshman Anastacio Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) was the leading point scorer for Concordia with six on Saturday. He started the day with a major decision over Jad Alwawi of North Central at 13-3. Chance Suddeth of Augsburg then picked up a 12-1 major decision. Martinez picked up another major decision over David Fielder of Baldwin Wallace at 13-5 and then a fall over Bernie Cox of Eureka at 4:22. The day ended at 133 pounds with Coe's Fainter earning a fall at 2:20.

Senior Peyton Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) secured five points at 285 pounds. Smith started the day with a fall over Isaac Coleman at 2:53. He then had a major decision over Remington Gay of Midland at 11-2. Robby Bates had a 4-1 decision in the quarterfinals and Tyler Raway won by a fall at 2:18 to end the day.

Junior Ruben Vasquez (Westminster, Calif.) claimed four points at 197 pounds. He started the morning with a fall over Hunter Coons of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 4:51 but his day ended due to medical forfeit.

Freshman KeiKei Evans (San Antonio, Texas) earned three points at 285 pounds for the Blue and White. Evans had a fall over Hunter Gorecki of Augsburg at 3:55. He then fell in a pair of decisions against Trujillo of North Central, 6-1, and Watson of Wabash, 4-1.

Junior Frank Budederi (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) brought in 2.5 points at 149 pounds at NCC. After starting the day with a fall against, he bounced back with a fall against Jeramiah Crisp of Blackburn at 2:59. Lucio Morgan of Whitewater ended the run with a fall at 1:13.

At 149 pounds, sophomore Mason Markham (Elkhorn, Wis.) had a pair of falls against Xavier Carpentier of Albion and Lucas Jagodzinske of Augsburg.

Sophomore Ethan Onan (Beach Park, Ill.) went 0-2 at 157 pounds on Saturday. Luke Christie of North Central had a tech fall at 17-0 and Tyren Schefer of Midland picked up a 13-8 decision.

Senior TJ Mackey (Joliet, Ill.) had two falls against in the 174-pound bracket. Syrus Colon of Castleton had a fall at 0:31 and Logan Kawa of Whitewater did so at 4:06.

Junior Dawson Galvan (Chula Vista, Calif.) went 0-2 at the 184-pound bracket in Illinois. Armando Hernandez of North Central had a fall at 0:52 and Garrett Jobe of Albion earned the tech fall at 15-0.
