Wrestling Wins Twice at the Desert Duals
LAS VEGAS – The Concordia Wisconsin wrestling team closed the calendar year at the Desert Duals on Saturday against No. 2 Wartburg, Linfield and Pacific. The Falcons opened the day with a 6-49 loss to the second-ranked Knights. CUW bounced back with a 48-6 victory over Linfield. Concordia closed the day with a 36-18 victory over Pacific. The Falcons improve to 3-3 on the year in dual matches.
The lone victory for the Falcons over Wartburg came at 285 pounds with senior Peyton Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) earning a fall over Dillon Bailey at 4:00.
Freshman Anastacio Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) started the scoring against Linfield at 133 pounds with a fall over Max Vander Meide at 1:09.
Sophomore Christopher Khaosanga (Jackson, Wis.) won by forfeit at 141 pounds.
Junior Frank Budederi (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) also won by forfeit at 149 pounds.
At 157 pounds, sophomore Mason Markham (Elkhorn, Wis.) made quick work of Fermin Carrillo with a fall at 0:19.
Sophomore Brandon Monteiro (Fernley, Nev.) picked up six points with a medical forfeit at 165 pounds.
Senior TJ Mackey (Joliet, Ill.) had a forfeit victory at 174 pounds.
Junior Ruben Vasquez (Westminster, Calif.) was victorious at 197 pounds with a fall over Divenson Willis at 1:28.
Peyton Smith finished off the Wildcats after he secured a fall at 285 pounds over Julian Ortiz at 2:51.
The Boxers started the afternoon session with a 9-0 advantage.
Christopher Khaosanga picked up six points at 141 pounds.
Mason Markham also had a forfeit victory at 149 pounds.
Freshman Alexander Hammontree (Houston, Texas) earned six points for the Bird at 165 pounds with a forfeit victory.
At 174 pounds, TJ Mackey also had a forfeit victory.
Ruben Vasquez secured the victory over Pacific with a fall over Spyre Nelson at 1:48.
Peyton Smith finished his 3-0 day with a fall over Garrett Olbrich at 1:03.
The Falcons return to action on January 10 at home against Elmhurst.
