Sanders goes undefeated, Wrestling competes at Florida Gulf Coast Duals

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Greg Sanders went undefeated to lead Concordia University Wisconsin's wrestling team at the Second Annual Florida Gulf Coast Duals. The Falcons dropped their four duals to Heidelberg University (29-7), Alma College (33-12), SUNY Oneonta (24-15) and to No. 19 Augustana College (42-3).

Seven teams competed in the duals, which were won by Augustana College and Central College with a 4-0 record.

Sanders won all four of his matches, while sophomore Sean Ambrocio (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Casey Kenealy (Hartford, Wis.) each won two matches in the duals.

Sanders (sophomore, San Antonio, Texas) earned two wins by decision and two by major decision. The nation's fifth-ranked 149-pounder began the duals with a 14-3 major decision win over Andrew Johnson (Heidelberg University) who is ranked 14th in the nation. Sanders then won 5-2 over Caleb Huff (Alma College) before defeating Kyle Wierzbicki (SUNY Oneonta) by major decision, 13-2.

He ended the duals with a 7-3 decision victory over Walter Piech (Augustana College) to improve his season record to 22-2 overall.

Ambrocio added a victory by fall and decision to his 2012-13 resume. He defeated Tyler Foley (Alma College) by pin in 1:40 before winning by decision, 9-5, over Zachary Aal (SUNY Oneonta). His season record is now 14-5 overall.

Kenealy won a decision match, 6-1, against Drew Barnes (Alma College) prior to pinning Anthony Paratore (SUNY Oneonta) in 2:53. He is now 12-11 overall this season.

Sophomore Jake Reuteler (New Berlin, Wis.) also won a match by sudden victory, 8-6, over Jake Smith (SUNY Oneonta) after scoring three points in the third period.

During the exhibition matches, senior Shawn Flom (Random Lakes, Wis.) won three matches by fall. He pinned Sean Meehan (Central College) in 5:15, Cody Heche (Augustana College) in 2:09 and Anthony Marino (SUNY Oneonta) in 1:00. Sophomore Ricky Burns (El Paso, Texas) also won two exhibition matches by major decision and decision.

CUW will have nearly a month off before returning to the mat on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 with three duals against UW-Eau Claire, UW-Oshkosh and No. 27 St. John's University.
