Ambrocio, Sanders win at MSOE Invitational; Falcons place eight wrestlers

MILWAUKEE – Concordia University Wisconsin had one of its most successful days on the mat in some time during Saturday's MSOE Invitational. Sean Ambrocio and Greg Sanders won their respective weight classes, while the Falcons took third place as a team.

CUW finished with 97.5 points and were just 0.5 points behind second place UW-Oshkosh. In all, eight Falcon wrestlers placed in the top six of their respective weight class.

Ambrocio (sophomore, San Antonio, Texas) cruised in his first two bouts of the 125-pound weight class, earning a win by fall in 6:14 before defeating his opponent 18-3 in technical fall fashion. Ambrocio then picked up two wins by decision, 6-2 and 3-2, for his first title of the season.

Sanders (sophomore, San Antonio, Texas) defeated his first opponent by fall in 4:29 before winning three-straight bouts by decision to capture his first title of the season. Sanders defeated his opponents 10-4, 10-5 and 6-3 en route to the medal.

Sophomore Jake Reuteler (New Berlin, Wis.) earned a second place finish after winning two of his three bouts in the 197-pound bracket. He won both of his matches easily by major decision, 16-8, and decision, 16-9, before losing by fall (4:39) in the championship bout.

Junior Leonard Kuspa (Oak Forest, Ill.) earned a third-place finish after going 3-1 in the Invitational. He won by decision, 5-0, before falling 8-5 in the championship bracket. In the wrestle-back bracket Kuspa won by decision, 11-6 and 6-4.

Senior David Toumi (Wheaton, Ill.) finished the 157-pound bracket with a 3-2 overall record to take fourth place. He won his first two bouts convincingly by major decision, 14-6, and decision, 13-7. Toumi then dropped a 5-3 decision. He defeated his next opponent 8-6 before losing by decision, 11-5.

Freshman Mason Baumgartner (Slinger, Wis.) earned four victories in impressive fashion at 184 pounds, but had to settle for a fourth place finish. He earned wins by technical fall (16-0), major decision (14-2), decision (9-6) and major decision (12-4). Unfortunately, he dropped a technical fall bout, 16-1, and a third-place bout, 7-3.

Junior Andrew D'Alberto (Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) lost his first bout by fall (2:04), which placed him in the wrestle-back bracket of the 285-pound weight class. He went on a tear, winning three-consecutive bouts by fall – 0:36, 2:13, 0:56 – but was pinned in 2:03 to take fourth place.

Sophomore Casey Kenealy (Hartford, Wis.) finished the 174-pound bracket 3-3, which included two wins by decision, 7-3 and 6-0, and one by major decision, 13-3. He lost bouts by technical fall 15-0 (3:30), decision 6-0, along with a loss by fall (2:13) to earned sixth place.

CUW returns to the mat on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the North Central College Invite.
