VanGroll NWCA Attends Leadership Academy

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin wrestling head coach Corey VanGroll was among 45 coaches selected nationwide to attend the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Leadership Academy, held August 3-5 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

The Leadership Academy, in its fourth year, trains young collegiate coaches to help improve their CEO skills, as well as promoting sound practices for improving retention and graduation rates. The Leadership Academy provides education, seminars and clinics as part of the 2012 NWCA National Wrestling Convention.

"It was an honor to be one of a few coaches around the country selected to attend this academy," VanGroll said. "It was a valuable experience for me. To listen to some of the biggest names in the sport of wrestling helped me see the big picture and I learned many ideas that I will bring back to CUW. If I use 10 percent of what I learned this program will be much better."

Speakers at the Leadership Academy included names such as Russ Hellickson (competed in the 1975 Olymipcs), Tom Ryan (head coach at Ohio State University and 2009 National Coach of the Year), Kellen Russell (two-time NCAA 141-pound champion) and Mike Moyer (Executive Director of the NWCA).
