Men’s Tennis closes Florida trip with wins over UW-Superior, Western New England

ORLANDO, Fla. – The spring break trip to Florida ended well for the Falcons as they defeated UW-Superior 9-0 and then took down Western New England 5-4 on Thursday.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Falcons overwhelmed the Yellowjackets with a 9-0 sweep in the opening match.
-The longest match was played at the No. 1 singles spot, with Christian Docter (Madison, Wis.) battling Josiah Borst for three sets. Docter defeated his Yellowjacket opponent in the first 6-4, dropped the second 5-7, and then took the win with an 11-9 victory in the third.
-The second match of the day against the Golden Bears went down to the wire.
-Concordia Wisconsin won the No. 3 and No. 1 doubles matches before WNE took the No. 2 match.
-The Falcons jumped ahead to a 4-1 lead with Tim Peters' (Slinger, Wis.) win at No. 5 singles and Gabe Binversie's (Plymouth, Wis.) win at No. 4.
-With no more points to give, the Golden Bears started to rally, proceeding to take the No. 2, No. 6, and No. 3 singles matches to even it up at 4-4.
-The only live match remaining was No. 1 singles. Docter battled David Kalmer for three sets. The Falcon junior fell in the first set 2-6 before rallying to take the second 7-6 with a 7-3 tiebreaker. Docter sealed the 5-4 victory for the Falcons with a 10-6 win in the final set.

-The Falcons travel to face Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday, March 30, at 10am.
