Men's Soccer season ends in NACC Semifinals vs. Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Four second-half goals helped Dominican University end the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team's season in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Semifinals held Tuesday at West Campus Field. The Stars also scored once in the first half making the final count, 5-0.

The Falcons were missing a few key players on Tuesday as they have been banged up in the latter half of the season. Among those not in action were leading scorer Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) and NACC Defensive Player of the Year Jacob Pope (Muskego, Wis.).

The Stars scored the game-winner in the 31st minute when Enzo Berrini tallied an unassisted goal. It was the first of his two goals on the afternoon and Berrini also scored the opening goal of the second half for Dominican in the 50th minute.

Zack Venzon put DU up 3-0 at the 62:42 mark off an assist from Marco Alvarez. Alvarez, who also assisted on Berrini's second goal, got himself in the goal column of the stat sheet in the 84th minute, scoring off assists from Gabriel Garcia and Logan Marvin. Marvin rounded out the scoring for Dominican at the 88:16 mark off an assist from Frankie Saiz.

The Falcons were outshot 23-10 by DU. Four CUW players tallied multiple shots, including freshman Nicolas Bocanegra (Grafton, Wis.) who recorded a team-best three. Freshmen Gavin Winston (Park Forest, Ill.) and Justin Clayton (Crete, Ill.) and senior Blake Edler (St. Charles, Mo.) each fired two shots. Alvarez finished with a match-high five shots.

Sophomore Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) made two saves in 79:48 of action as the Falcons starting goalkeeper. Brew took the loss, falling for just the second time in eight starts since taking over as the team's starter October 12. Gabriel Gongora picked up his 11th win of the year, making four saves in 84:18 of action.

CUW concludes its season with a 10-8-2 record. The Falcons gained 10 wins for the 20th straight season under head coach Tom Saleska and reached the NACC Semifinals for the eighth straight season.
