Brew records second straight shutout, Men's Soccer gains key NACC win

MEQUON, Wis. – Alec Brew recorded his second straight shutout in just his third career varsity start and Gavin Winston and Keegan Van Dusseldorp tallied goals to lead Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer past MSOE, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Fitting Field.

The win was a big one for the Falcons as it puts them in a tie for third in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with Edgewood College. A top-four finish would ensure CUW a home playoff match in the six-team NACC Tournament.

The Falcons got on the board at the 20:59 mark when Winston (Park Forest, Ill. – freshman) scored his seventh goal of the season. Junior Diego Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.) started the play with a pass to freshman Jordan Moehn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) who put a touch on it to Winston. Winston was standing in the middle of the box and easily beat the keeper for the 1-0 lead.

That would be all the scoring in the opening half as the Falcons held a 12-6 edge in shots through 45 minutes. Brew (Appleton, Wis. – sophomore) made two of his four saves in the first half.

The lead extended to 2-0 when Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis. - sophomore) sailed one in from roughly 25 yards out. The goal was the team-leading eighth of the season for the sophomore striker and came with 31:50 left in the match.

Van Dusseldorp finished with a match-high eight shots, including placing three on goal. Winston added four shots, while Jake Tenut fired four to lead the Raiders. CUW did an outstanding job defensively on the Raider's Logan Andryk, who entered the match leading the NACC in goals, assists and points. The foursome of senior Jacob Pope (Muskego, Wis.) and sophomores David Kulberg (Osseo, Minn.), Mark Samuel (Brookfield, Wis.) and Mitchell Boehm (Plymouth, Mich.) made matters difficult for Andryk all afternoon.

The shutout was the sixth of the season for CUW and second for Brew in net. Brew finished with four saves and now has a scoreless streak of 206:01 dating back to last Saturday's draw against Aurora University. His counterpart, Garrett Farin, also made four saves.

The Falcons will return to action Wednesday when they visit Wisconsin Lutheran College in a NACC matchup. CUW and WLC will begin play at 7 p.m.
