Men's Soccer shut out by Wisconsin Lutheran in NACC road contest

MEQUON, Wis. – Wisconsin Lutheran College struck quickly Wednesday night and the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team couldn't overcome the early deficit, falling in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play, 2-0, at Warrior Soccer Field.

Jake Semmann of WLC scored just 7:13 into play, putting the Falcons in a 1-0 hole. The Warriors would add a second goal in the second half off the foot of Austin Drake, resulting in the 2-0 final. Roman Nino assisted on the matches opening goal.

The two teams fired 11 shots each, both recording four in the first half and seven after the break. Senior Jacob Pope (Muskego, Wis.) led the Falcons with three shots, while sophomore Bobby Russ (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and freshman Gavin Winston (Park Forest, Ill.) each tallied two. The Warriors received a match-high four shots from Drake.

Sophomore Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) saw his scoreless minutes streak come to an end Wednesday. Brew had recorded back-to-back shutouts in wins over Marian University and MSOE last week. His streak reached 213:14 before the Semmann goal. Brew finished with four saves in the match. Jon Stewart posted the shutout for Wisconsin Lutheran, recording four saves.

The loss moves CUW into a three-way tie for fifth place in the NACC standings with Edgewood College and WLC. The top six teams will advance to the conference tournament and CUW has two conference matches remaining, including one against Edgewood next week.

CUW (7-7-2, 4-3-1) will return to action Saturday when they visit Concordia University Chicago for a NACC matchup. The Falcons and Cougars are set for a 1 p.m. start.
