Men’s Soccer rebounds with shutout win over Minnesota Morris

MORRIS, Minn. – Freshmen Nicolas Bocanegra and Josiah Ochoa each scored their first career collegiate goal as the Concordia University Wisconsin men's soccer team earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 shutout over the University of Minnesota Morris.

Goalkeeper Eric Vogel (Itasca, Ill.) was strong in net for the second consecutive day for CUW as he posted his first career shutout, making three saves on the day. The Falcons outshot UMM 11-6.

Bocanegra (Grafton, Wis.) got the scoring started on Sunday afternoon as he launched a free kick from 30 yards out for the first Falcons goal of the season. His tally came just 5:14 into action, giving the Falcons an early 1-0 lead.

The score would remain the same until the 66:45 mark when Ochoa (Mundelein, Ill.) beat the goalie, putting CUW on top 2-0. That score would hold for the remainder of the game as that is all Vogel and the Falcons defense needed for the win.

Freshman Gavin Winston (Park Forest, Ill.) totaled three shots, leading all players in that category. The Cougars got two shots each from Matt Vik and Ebrima Badgie. Matthew Yost made five saves for UMM.

CUW (1-1-0) returns to action next Saturday as they will continue their four-game road swing with a trip to Beloit. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
