Strong second half sends Men's Soccer past Concordia Chicago

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Following a third straight half with no goals scored the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team needed to find a way to create some offense and get on the scoreboard.  The Falcons did just that, scoring twice early in the second half, as they defeated Concordia University Chicago, 2-0, Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Keegan Van Dusseldorp tallied the game-winning goal just 1:17 into the second half when he scored unassisted, giving the Falcons a 1-0 advantage. Junior Diego Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.) would add another scoring mark 9:30 later off an assist from freshman Jordan Moehn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) for the 2-0 result.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) recorded his third shutout in his past four starts, making four saves for his third victory of the season. His counterpart, Roberto Aragon, was busy all afternoon as he finished with 14 saves.

The first half of action was scoreless despite the Falcons firing 18 shots, seven of those being on net. CUW outshot the Cougars, 18-6, in the first half and finished the match with 33 shots compared to 10 for CUC.

The win was big for the Falcons as they are still playing to try and clinch a spot in the six-team Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament. The Falcons are currently tied with Edgewood College for fifth place, but WLC sits just a half game back and plays tomorrow against Aurora University.

CUW (8-7-2, 5-3-1 NACC) will host Edgewood on Tuesday afternoon. A Falcons win puts them in the NACC Tournament, while a loss could end their season, depending on the outcome of several other matches.
