No. 14 UW-Oshkosh edges Men's Soccer, 2-1

MEQUON, Wis. – After one half of play the Concordia University Wisconsin men's soccer team led the 14th ranked UW-Oshkosh Titans, 1-0. Unfortunately for the Falcons, UWO used a two goal second half to rally past them, 2-1, in a non-conference match at Fitting Field Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore forward Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) put the Falcons on the board first as he scored with 6:17 remaining in the first half. Senior Jacob Pope (Muskego, Wis.) launched a pass from the defensive end towards the goalie and the ball was misplayed by UW-Oshkosh, allowing Van Dusseldorp to put in the goal. Pope was credited with an assist.

That lead would hold for the first half, but UWO showed why they are the 14th ranked team in the nation in the second stanza, scoring two goals in the first 20 minutes. Both scoring marks came from freshman Jan Nachtigall.

Nachtigall struck at the 53:03 mark as he scored off a touch pass from Ryan Redmond. Tony Starnes also got an assist on the play, starting it all with a cross. Nachtigall then had the game-winner on a penalty kick at the 64:18 mark. The kick was a result of the only yellow card on CUW in the match, while UW-Oshkosh received three.

UW-Oshkosh (5-0-3) outshot the Falcons, 18-4, including holding a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. Junior Eric Vogel (Itasca, Ill.) recorded six saves for CUW, while sophomore Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) appeared late in the match and recorded one save. Nick Barry got the win for UWO as he played the entire second half in relief of starter Sam Gabrilska. Barry did not face a shot on goal in the second half.

Van Dusseldorp led the Falcons offensive attack with the goal and a team-best three shots, two on goal. UWO had three players finish with a match-high four shots in Nachtigall, Starnes and Trent Allison.

CUW (2-3-1) will begin conference play on Saturday against seven-time Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference champion Dominican University. The Falcons and Stars are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at West Campus Field in River Forest, Ill. Live stats and video links will be available at CUWFalcons.com.
