Dahms leads Men’s Lacrosse to defeat of Carthage

MEQUON, Wis. - A sideways driving rain and sub-40 degree temperatures could not stop Danny Dahms on Thursday afternoon as he scored a game-high five goals to lead Concordia University Wisconsin to a 10-6 Midwest Lacrosse Conference victory over Carthage College at Fitting Field.

The sophomore midfielder was the catalyst for the Falcons offense as they defeated their in-state rival and put themselves one-step closer to the MLC Tournament. Overall, CUW held a 23-15 advantage in shots on goals and won 13-of-20 faceoffs.

CUW (7-5, 5-3 MLC) scored in spurts and led 4-3 at halftime before the Dahms show took effect. The Calgary, Alberta, native scored back-to-back goals in the third and added two more in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Sophomore Sam Wladyka (Winnipeg, Manitoba) also added a pair of goals for the Falcons, while freshman Matt Larsen (Gurnee, Ill.), freshman Derek Brueske (Hopkins, Minn.) and sophomore Colin Stephenson (Caledonia, Mich.) also scored.

The offense was the highlight of the victory for the Falcons, but their defense played just as well holding the Red Men to just 15 shots on goal in 34 total attempts.

Seth Molek paced CC (7-5, 3-4 MLC) with four goals on 13 shots and Peter Slefinger added two goals of his own.

Sophomore Zack Davis (La Porte, Ind.) earned the win between the pipes for CUW after recording nine saves. Spencer Curley took the loss, despite saving 13 shot attempts.

The Falcons had superb passing in the first half as they finished with a pair of assists. The fans who braved the weather saw outstanding footwork and athletic moves throughout the second half and CUW built its advantage to the final score.

CUW will have one day off before returning to Fitting Field to complete a short two-game home stand against non-conference opponent Augustana College. The faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
