Men’s Lacrosse drops season opener at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio - Concordia University Wisconsin
dropped a 17-5 decision to Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday at
Selby Stadium in the non-conference opener for both schools.
The Battling Bishops charged to a quick 6-0 lead after
the first period and outshot the Falcons 59-18 in the contest. CUW
scored its first goal to begin the second period, but OWU held an
advantage in possession throughout, winning 22-of-26 faceoffs.
Freshman Derek Brueske (Hopkins, Minn.) led CUW with
two goals on three shots. Sophomores Danny Dahms (Calgary, Alberta)
and Sam Wladyka (Winnipeg, Manitoba), along with freshman Matt
Larsen (Gurnee, Ill.) each recorded a goal.
Brueske and Larsen also finished with an assist for
the Falcons.
Pat Bassett and Spencer Schnell each tallied a hat
trick for OWU (1-0). The Battling Bishops also had five players who
scored twice. Drew Scharf assisted on four goals, while Tommy
Minkler and Colin Short each had three assists.
Sophomore Zack Davis (La Porte, Ind.) took the loss
for CUW in goal while recording 14 saves. Ryan McMahon earned the
victory for OWU.
The Battling Bishops concluded the game with a perfect
17-for-17 on clear attempts, while the Falcons were 15-for-27. CUW
(0-1) scored one goal on a man-up situation, whereas OWU scored
four and found the back of the net on a man-down opportunity.
The Falcon offense found some rhythm in the final
period, scoring three of the game's final four goals.
CUW returns to action on Saturday, March 3rd in its
home opener at Fitting Field against non-conference opponent
Wittenberg University at 1 p.m.
