Field Hockey edged in SAA opener

CONWAY, ARK. – Playing in the program's first-ever conference game, the Concordia University Wisconsin Field Hockey team fell, 1-0, at Hendrix on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors scored in the 26th minute to record the Southern Athletic Association win over the Falcons.

THE BASICS
- Final Score: Hendrix 1, Concordia Wisconsin 0
- Location: Warrior Field – Conway, Arkansas
- Records: Hendrix 3-2, 1-0 SAA; CUW 2-2, 0-1 SAA

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The story of the game was the play of the goalies. Kennedy Boyer (Saline, Mich.) finished the game with seven saves, including four in the second half to keep the Falcons within one.

- Unfortunately for the Falcons, Hendrix received strong player from its goalie as well. Alexis Truitt stopped all seven shots she faced, including five in the second half, to complete the shutout for the Warriors.

- The lone goal was scored in the 26th minute by the Warriors Nadine Matena. Tegan Waller assisted on the Matena goal.

- Ciara Bond (Maplewood, Minn.) and Rachel Larson (Fenton, Mo.) each tallied three shots for the Falcons. Waller led all players with four shots in the game.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The game was the first-ever conference battle for the Falcons. Last season, the first in program history, CUW played as an independent before joining the SAA this summer.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will be back in action tomorrow with another road SAA matchup. CUW is set to take on Rhodes at noon.
