Baseball ready to host NACC Tournament

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons will host the NACC Baseball Tournament starting this Thursday, May 9th, at Kapco Park. Concordia Wisconsin is the No. 4 seed in the tournament and will face No. 5 Marian on Thursday at 1pm.

The No. 1 team in the conference tournament is Concordia Chicago, who is also the No. 1 ranked DIII baseball team in the country. No other team in the conference is ranked nationally, though No. 2 seed Aurora has earned votes in the national polls.

Dominican is ranked just ahead of the Falcons at No. 3, and will face No. 6 Illinois Tech in the opening game of the tournament that starts at 10am on Thursday morning.

CUW has made the tournament every year since the 2013 season.

At the plate for the Falcons, Austen Dart (Algoma, Wis.) leads the team with 40 hits on the season. The senior is hitting .328 with 18 runs, 21 RBI, and seven stolen bases. He has hit six doubles and is tied for the team lead with two home runs on the season.

On the mound, Lukas Meerdink (Oostburg, Wis.) leads the team with 49.2 innings pitched. The senior has 67 strikeouts for an average of 12.26 per nine innings. He has an ERA of 3.84 on the season and has allowed only 31 hits.

Earlier this season, the Falcons split a doubleheader series with Marian on the road. CUW won the opener 6-1 before the Sabres responded with a 5-1 win in game two. Marian holds a slight 23-22 all-time record in games with Concordia Wisconsin. In postseason play, the Sabres are undefeated 2-0. Look for the Falcons to get their first playoff win over the Sabres on Thursday starting at 1pm.
