Baseball sweeps Edgewood

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons defeated the Eagles in both games of a doubleheader that faced multiple weather postponements in the days leading up to the first pitch. Concordia Wisconsin won the opener over Edgewood in a 5-0 shutout before completing the sweep with a 4-1 victory in game two on Tuesday night.

THE BASICS
-Final Score: CUW 5, EC 0 | CUW 4, EC 1
-Records: CUW 10-14 (6-6 NACC), EC 6-19 (3-9 NACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
-In the first game, Lukas Meerdink (Oostburg, Wis.) struck out 12 batters for the Falcons in the win. The dozen strikeouts tied him for the third most in a game ever by a Falcon with alumni Derrick Pankow who set the mark on April 18, 2009, at Rockford.
-At the plate, the Falcons got on the board in the fourth with Eric Paz's (Kenosha, Wish.) RBI single down the right-field line.
-In the eighth, CUW scored four. First, Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) hit an RBI single to left field. Then, back-to-back errors allowed the Falcons to score three runs.
-In game two, the Falcons continued their dominant pitching. The Eagles finally managed to score in the 6th inning, breaking a 14-inning scoreless streak on the day. The run would be the only one they would manage against the Falcon pitchers.
-Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.) led the Falcons at the plate in the second game, going 3-for-4 with an RBI-single in the seventh and a run scored following a triple in the fifth.

UP NEXT
-The Falcons travel to face Lakeland on Saturday, April 20, starting at 12pm.
