Sumner, Ranieri help guide Baseball to non-conference win at St. Norbert

DE PERE, Wis. – Freshman Bradlee Sumner did not allow an earned run in a complete-game effort and Dan Ranieri drove in three runs, helping lead the Concordia University Wisconsin Baseball team to a 6-1 win over St. Norbert Tuesday. The Falcons strong showing on the road snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Green Knights.

THE BASICS
- Final Score:
Concordia Wisconsin 6, St. Norbert 1
- Location: Van Alstine Field – De Pere, Wisconsin
- Records: CUW 10-6; St. Norbert 10-4

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sumner (Ocala, Fla.) turned in the best start of his young career, going the distance for his second win of the year. The freshman did not issue a walk and allowed just five hits while striking out two. Sumner faced just three over the minimum, inducing a couple double plays throughout the contest.

- Both teams scored in the fourth inning for the first runs of the game, but the Falcons four-run fifth was the difference Tuesday. Two of the runs in the fifth came on bases-loaded hit batsmen, while Ranieri (Loves Park, Ill.) drove in the other two with a two-run single. The senior third basemen finished the game 2-for-5 with three RBI.

- Ranieri would add an insurance run for CUW in the ninth with an RBI single, plating Kyle Washburn (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.). Washburn had a productive day from the ninth spot in the order, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Michael Szeszol (Lake Bluff, Ill.) paced the Falcons from the leadoff spot, finishing with two hits, including a double, and two runs scored.

- Jason Malkowski took the loss for the Green Knights, throwing 4.1 innings. He ran into trouble in the fifth and ended his day allowing five runs, all earned. Bryce Braspennickx threw the final 4.2 innings, allowing one run. Sean Grant led St. Norbert at the dish with a 3-for-3 performance.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- In games dating back to the 2005 season, the Falcons had just four prior wins against St. Norbert in 19 meetings. The Falcons were 0-7 in road games against the Green Knights, again dating back to 2005, before Tuesday's win.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will host Aurora in the NACC opener Saturday. First pitch is set for noon at Kapco Park.
