Baseball takes game two in split at Dominican

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Baseball team rebounded with a game two win, salvaging a NACC doubleheader split at Dominican Saturday. The Falcons fell, 5-3, in the opener before picking up a 5-2 win in game two.

CUW 5, DOMINICAN 2
- The Falcons bullpen was the story of game two as seniors Drew Underwager (South Elgin, Ill.) and Scott Plachinski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) combined for 5.2 scoreless frames. Underwager picked up his first win with 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out four.

- Plachinski notched his fourth save of the year with two perfect frames. The senior struck out two in closing out the win for the Falcons.

- The Falcons trailed 1-0 in game two before scoring a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Dominican added a run in the bottom half of the frame before CUW plated two more in the top of the fifth, both coming on a two-RBI single by Kyle Hilliard (Oak Forest, Ill.). Kyle Washburn (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) added an RBI double for CUW in the eighth inning.

- Washburn finished the game 3-for-3 with two doubles in pacing the Falcons offense. Hilliard added a double and two hits while Dan Ranieri (Loves Park, Ill.) picked up a pair of hits as well.

DOMINICAN 5, CUW 3
- Colin Janison of Dominican delivered a gutsy performance in the opener as the Stars pitcher went the distance, needing 147 pitches to finish off the Falcons. Janison struck out 14 batters in his fourth win of the season.

- The Falcons took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth after Justin Barney (Kenosha, Wis.) delivered a two-RBI single. The Stars wasted no time taking the lead back, scoring three times in the bottom half of the inning, two on a double by Frankie Sessa.

- Ranieri had two doubles for CUW in the opener while Barney and Christian Gerner (Mequon, Wis.) each totaled two hits.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will finish a previously halted game against Rockford on Monday at 5 p.m. CUW and Rockford are currently tied in the top of the 10th and CUW has the bases loaded with one out.
