Baseball edged by Ripon in non-conference action

MEQUON, Wis. – On a chilly Sunday afternoon where runs were hard to come by, Ripon edged the Concordia University Wisconsin Baseball team, 3-2, in non-conference action at Kapco Park. The loss snapped the Falcons four-game winning streak and moves them to 9-6 for the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Hawks used a two-out rally in the second inning to score two of their three runs in the game. A Tyler Nelson bunt single sparked the rally, which was capped off by a two-run double off the bat of Keegan Johnston.

- The Falcons responded with a run in the bottom of the third, making the score 2-1. Kyle Washburn (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) drove in Peter Scott (Dayton, Nev.) with an RBI single. Scott started the frame with a triple.

- Ripon scored one in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Eric Hietpas. The Falcons would again cut into the Ripon lead as Matt Luft (Oshkosh, Wis.) delivered an RBI single in the fifth, plating Washburn. 

- Andrew Gibbons (Markesan, Wis.) took the loss for CUW, pitching 3.1 innings before leaving with an injury. He allowed three runs, two earned and struck out four. Niko Kutsulis (Homer Glen, Ill.) threw 4.2 scoreless frames while Scott Plachinski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) came on for a scoreless ninth.

- Austin Fox picked up the win, throwing the fifth inning for the Red Hawks. Brian Brown nailed down the save with four scoreless frames, allowing just one hit over the final 12 outs.

- The Falcons are scheduled to take on St. Norbert in a non-conference road game Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
