Hilliard named to ABCA Midwest All-Region Second Team
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Concordia University Wisconsin sophomore catcher Kyle Hilliard was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association NCAA Division III Midwest All-Region Second Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
Hilliard (Oak Forest, Ill.) earned the nod after an impressive sophomore campaign for the Falcons. He led the team with a .398 batting average, including a .464 clip in conference games. He drove in 29 runs and scored 18 times, while collecting four doubles and a triple.
Hilliard was just as impressive defensively as he threw out 25 percent of the baserunners who tried to steal on him throughout the season. He did not commit an error over 36 games behind the dish, while handling the pitching staff throughout the season.
The All-Region selection marks the second straight season CUW has had a player earn ABCA honors. Last year, Carter Buuck was named to the Third Team.
Hilliard was one of eight players from the NACC to receive All-Region status. League champion Concordia Chicago had three players on the First Team and another named Second Team, while Marian, Dominican and MSOE all had a player named to the Third Team.
