Baseball drops two at NACC-leading Concordia Chicago

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Baseball team dropped a pair of games at NACC-leading Concordia University Chicago Saturday afternoon. The Cougars offense proved to be too much as the Falcons fell by scores of 14-4 and 12-3.

THE BASICS
- Final Scores: Concordia Chicago 14, Concordia Wisconsin 4 (Game 1 – F/8); Concordia Chicago 12, Concordia Wisconsin 3 (Game 2)

- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 10-12, 4-4 NACC; Concordia Chicago 20-7, 8-2 NACC

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- The Falcons held a 2-0 lead until the fifth and led 4-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth before the Cougars broke the game open. CUC scored twice in the sixth and then put up six in the seventh and five more in the eighth for the 10-run win.

- Senior Andrew Mueller (Horicon, Wis.) took the loss with six innings of work, allowing four earned runs. The Falcons bullpen struggled as a trio of pitchers gave up nine runs over 1.2 innings of work.

- Junior Mitchell Dubnicka (Hartland, Wis.) and sophomore Kyle Hilliard (Oak Forest, Ill.) each collected two hits and a RBI in the opener. Sophomore Nathan Thyssen (Appleton, Wis.) scored two runs for the Falcons.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- The Cougars scored once each in the first three innings before erupting for five in the fourth, building an 8-0 lead in game two.

- Sophomore Dan Ranieri (Loves Park, Ill.) collected three hits to pace CUW, while juniors Matt Schubert (West Bend, Wis.) and Bryan Thomas (Lowell, Ind.) added two each. Sophomore Michael Szeszol (Lake Bluff, Ill.) recorded a double for the Falcons.

- Senior Tyler Gross (Wauwatosa, Wis.) took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings for CUW. The Cougars showcased their strong lineup with 16 hits in game two, three each from Bryan Vanduser, Andrew Massey and Mitch Wilson.

UP NEXT
- CUW will look to bounce back with a NACC doubleheader at home tomorrow. The Falcons will host Rockford with first pitch set for noon.
