Women’s Hockey falls to St. Scholastica

MEQUON, Wis. - On Senior Day at the Ozaukee Ice Center, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team suffered a 4-2 loss against NCHA rival College of St. Scholastica on Saturday afternoon, despite scoring twice in the final stages of the game.

CUW (7-13-3, 5-11-2 NCHA) got third period goals from freshman Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) and senior Bradi Jonasson (Bloomington, Wis.), but it wasn't enough to hang with the Saints.

Freshman goalie Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.) followed up a career-high 54 save performance on Friday night with 38 saves on Saturday.

St. Scholastica (12-6-5, 10-5-3 NCHA) blew the game open with two goals in 30 seconds in the second period, before scoring inside the first minute of the third period to take a commanding 4-0 lead.

Later in the final frame, head coach Jim Ingman pulled DeGeorge for an extra attacker, which led to the only two Falcon goals of the contest.

Heckendorf ripped a slap shot from the top of the circle which beat Saints goalie Rachel Borchardt, before Jonasson's deflected shot found the back of the net. Sophomore Maxine Blohowiak (Green Bay, Wis.) assisted on both goals.

Saturday's game was also Senior Day for the CUW women's hockey, as five seniors played their final home game in a Falcon uniform.

Jonasson, Alyssa Isaackson (Marshall, Minn.), Hilary Christiansen (Eagan, Minn.), Marie Melton (Prior Lake, Minn.), and Muriel McIntyre (Penticton, British Columbia), as well as CUW assistant coach Lindsay Farmer, were honored one the ice at the first intermission.

The Falcons will now have a week of practice before playing in their final two games of the regular season, when they travel to UW-Stevens Point for two games next weekend.
