Women’s Hockey falls to Foresters

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team rallied to tie the game on two separate occasions, but fell short against conference rival Lake Forest College, losing 4-3 on Tuesday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

The Falcons (2-2-0) found themselves in an early 2-0 hole at the first intermission, but fought back to tie the game late in the second period.

Junior Sara Cole (Plymouth, Minn.) got CUW going with a power play goal from the slot that sneaked between the legs of Forester goalie Stacey Dierking. Just moments later, senior Hilary Christiansen (Eagan, Minn.) got the Falcons back on level terms when she crashed the net, poking the puck just inside the near post.

CUW conceded an early goal in the third period to fall behind for a second time, but the Falcons wouldn't go away.

Freshman Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) grabbed her third goal of the season when she put home a deflected shot from close range to knot the score at 3-3 with 15 minutes to go.

Lake Forest (2-2-1) would land the final blow, however, when Kim Herring scored her second goal of the third period with just over four minutes remaining to win the game.

The Falcons owned the shots on goal category by a 31-26 margin, and freshman goalie Andrea Mizanskey (Palos Heights, Ill.) made 22 saves.

Next up for CUW is a home game against Finlandia University on Friday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.
