Women’s Hockey sweeps season series with Marian

FOND dU LAC, Wis. - After needing overtime to take down NCHA rival Marian University in its season opener, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team took care of the Sabres in regulation this time around.

CUW (5-2-0, 4-1-0 NCHA) left the Blue Line Family Ice Center with a 4-2 victory on Wednesday night, behind two goals from freshman Bailey Rasmussen (Grand Rapids, Minn.).

Senior Alyssa Isaackson (Marshall, Minn.) also scored for the Falcons, and freshman Samantha Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.) sealed the victory with an empty net goal with less than a minute to go.

Rasmussen scored her first goal of the season early in the first period, when she finished past Sabres goalie Amanda Alexander off a pass from freshman Kelsey Kusch (Saint Clair Shores, Mich.).

Later in the first, Isaackson scored her fifth goal of the season, with help from a redirect off the stick of senior Bradi Jonasson (Bloomington, Minn.) and senior Hilary Christiansen (Eagan, Minn.).

Marian (0-7-0, 0-6-0 NCHA) cut the Falcons' lead to 2-1 just moments later, but CUW got their two-goal advantage back in the second period, when Rasmussen beat Alexander once more on a rebound attempt.

The third period was somewhat quiet until Brittany Syms scored for the Sabres, making it a 3-2 game with less than five minutes left in regulation.

But after both teams committed penalties with under two minutes to go, it became a 4-on-4 situation, forcing Marian to pull their goalie for an extra skater.

Reiter took advantage, lifting a shot from the neutral zone into the back of the net, registering her first goal of the year and securing the win.

The Falcons don't play again until November 30, when they'll travel to DePere, Wis. to face St. Norbert College.
