Women’s Hockey suffers defeat to UW-River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Up against the top team in the NCHA, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team came up short against University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Friday night, falling 8-3 inside Hunt Arena.

CUW (7-10-2, 5-8-1 NCHA) held a 3-2 lead midway through the second period, but the floodgates opened after that as River Falls scored two goals later in the second period before netting four more in the third.

Sophomore Maxine Blohowiak (Green Bay, Wis.) had a goal and an assist for the Falcons, but it wasn't enough to secure the win.

After an early River Falls (16-3-2, 14-2-1 NCHA) tally, freshman Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) scored the first Falcon goal midway through the first period to tie the game at 1-1.

River Falls responded quickly, but Blohowiak scored later on in the opening frame to send the game into the first intermission knotted up at 2-2.

Senior Muriel McIntyre (Penticton, British Columbia, Canada) gave CUW a 3-2 advantage early in the second period when she finished off an assist from freshman Erin Grant (Allen Park, Mich.).

But it was all River Falls after that, as the Falcons scored six unanswered to seal the victory.

The two teams will meet again inside Hunt Arena on Saturday afternoon, with the game set to begin at 2 p.m.
