No. 8 UW-River Falls skates past Women's Hockey

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- No. 8-ranked University of Wisconsin-River Falls scored three times in the first period and never let up on the way to a convincing 7-0 win over the Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team (7-11-2) Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.

After UW-River Falls (17-3-2) scored three times in less than two minutes in that initial segment, Jim Ingman's Falcons played on even terms for the next thirty minutes before running out of steam.

UW-River Falls did get one goal in the second period, but the contest became a rout as the Falcons carried the momentum throughout a 3-0 final frame.

Statistics showed the game was much less one-sided than the final score would indicate as the hosts owned only a 34-26 shot advantage, but goalie Melissa Deardorf turned away every CUW shot; several in spectacular fashion.

Winless in their most recent seven matches, CUW will hope to turn things around when they host St. Norbert on Wednesday evening at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
