Women’s Hockey swept by No. 10 UW-Superior

MEQUON, Wis. - After suffering defeat in a low-scoring affair on Friday night, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team came up short again on Saturday afternoon, losing 6-2 to the No. 10-ranked University of Wisconsin-Superior at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

CUW (7-8-1, 5-6-0 NCHA) scored the first and last goals of the game, but in between the Falcon tallies, the Yellow Jackets scored six unanswered goals to put the game out of reach.

Junior Sara Cole (Plymouth, Minn.) and senior Muriel McIntyre (Penticton, British Columbia, Canada) were the goal scorers for Concordia, but Superior's offensive attack took control behind three power play goals.

Cole got the Falcons on the board less than two minutes into the game, firing a point shot that found its way through traffic before beating Torgerson to give CUW the early advantage. Senior Bradi Jonasson (Bloomington, Minn.) assisted on the play.

Superior (9-5-2, 8-3-1 NCHA) answered back later in the first period, however, tying things up at 1-1 before adding two more goals to stretch their lead to 3-1 going into the first intermission.

The Yellow Jackets added another goal in the second period with Chelsey Wierschem's power play tally, before tacking on two more insurance goals early in the third to finish the game off.

McIntyre did grab a consolation goal for the Falcons almost midway through the final frame, however, taking a pass from freshman Kelsey Dupuis (Glenview, Ill.) before snapping a shot from the top of the right circle that beat Torgerson to the far side.

The Falcons will now have a week of practice before hosting another in-state rival next weekend, as UW-Eau Claire visits the Ozaukee Ice Center for a two-game series.
