St. Norbert shuts out Women's Hockey in NCHA play

DE PERE, Wis. – For much of the early going of the 2014-15 season, the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team has been flustering opponent's with strong defense and goaltending. On Friday night, the Falcons found out what it is like to be on the other end of a strong defensive effort as they were shut out for the first time this season in a 3-0 setback against St. Norbert College.

Brianna Kelly of SNC made 18 saves as CUW fell to 3-3-0 in NCHA play with the loss. St. Norbert dominated puck possession, holding a 44-18 edge in shots.

Senior Andrea Mizanskey (Palos Heights, Ill.) played a strong game between the pipes for the Falcons as she recorded a career-best 41 saves. Mizanskey allowed just two goals in 43 shots faced as the final Green Knights goal was an empty-netter with 36 seconds remaining in play.

St. Norbert scored once in each period Friday, the final two goals coming in the final minute of the second and third. Jillian Kosteck recorded the game-winner at the 2:58 mark of the first stanza on a goal assisted by Reaghan Chadwick and Allie Patrick.

The score would remain 1-0 until late in the second period as Megan Crandell gave the home team a 2-0 lead on a power play goal with just 24 seconds to go before the second intermission. Ali Parker and Myranda Hayes assisted on the second goal of the game. Parker also had the empty-netter in the third.

Each team was whistled four times for penalties, with the Green Knights holding an edge on the power play with a 1-for-4 performance. The Falcons power play woes continued as they were held scoreless on four tries.

These two teams will conclude the weekend series tomorrow in another NCHA matchup in De Pere. Puck is set to drop at 4 p.m. with live video being provided by St. Norbert.
