Women's Hockey tabbed fifth in NCHA Preseason Poll

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Concordia University Women's Hockey team has been tabbed for a fifth-place finish in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association this season, according to the preseason poll voted on by the league's seven head coaches.

The Falcons are in year one under new head coach Steve Fabiilli and finished 2013-14 with an 8-16-2 overall record. CUW placed fifth in the NCHA, posting a 6-10-2 league mark. The Falcons season ended with an overtime setback against Adrian College in the NCHA First Round.

CUW received 15 points in the preseason poll. Defending league champion Lake Forest College earned four first-place votes and 34 poll points, being selected as the favorite in 2014-15. The College of St. Scholastica came in just behind the Foresters with three first-place votes and 32 points.

Adrian (26 points) was third, while St. Norbert College (22) came in fourth. Marian University (12) and Finlandia University (6) rounded out the preseason poll.

CUW will open its season this weekend with a home series against Finlandia. The Falcons will host the Lions Friday night at 7 p.m. in the home opener, followed by a Saturday afternoon contest at 4 p.m. Both matchups will be played at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
