Stevens Point Stops Men's Soccer

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's soccer team was back in action on Sunday at Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The Pointers sent the Falcons to 0-1-1 on the young season with a 1-0 result.

The Pointers had the first few chances of the match on Sunday afternoon. Junior Jeremy Munoz (Milwaukee, Wis.) came up with the first save of the match in the 14th minute.

Sophomore Vladimir Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.) had the first shot for the Falcons in the 27th minute that trailed left of the net.

The two teams went into halftime tied at zero, with Stevens Point holding a 6-1 advantage in shots. Jeremy Munoz collected four saves in the first half.

In the 55th minute, senior Carlos Valdivia (Fond du Lac, Wis.) headed the ball just to the right of the net.

The Pointers found the back of the net in the 59th minute on a shot from nine yards out into the lower right corner.

Vladimir Campos tried to level the match in the 64th minute, but the ball missed high.

Freshman Kyle Paler (Algonquin, Ill.) sent a ball high of the net in the 67th minute.

Vladimir Campos had an excellent opportunity in the 76th minute, but the keeper was able to deflect the ball away.

Junior Carson Kelly (Fond du Lac, Wis.) had an opportunity that was saved in the 83rd minute and the Falcons struck again a minute later off the boot of senior Alishan Sharipov (Krasnodar, Russia) that nearly trickled over the goal line.

The Falcons threatened late but were unable to tie the match.

Stevens Point held a 10-7 advantage in shots on Sunday.

Vladimir Campos led the flock with three shots.

Jeremy Munoz finished with five saves.

The Falcons will travel to Loras on Wednesday.
