Loras Sneaks Past Men's Soccer

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The CUW men's soccer suffered a narrow 1-2 to the Duhawks of Loras on Wednesday, bringing their record to 0-2-1 on the young season.

Loras struck first, scoring in 11th minute to take an early lead.

But CUW fought back; towards the end of the half, at the 38th minute, when CUW freshman Kyle Paler (Algonquin, Ill.) scored the equalizer with a goal set up by senior Sam Butterfield (St. Louis, Mo.).

The match remained tightly contested throughout the second half, as both defenses kept their opponents scoreless until the 86th minute, when Loras broke through with the decisive goal.

In the loss, senior Alishan Sharipov (Krasnodar, Russia) recorded a team-high four shots, while junior goalkeeper Jeremy Munoz (Milwaukee, Wis.) totaled a season-high 11 saves.

The Falcons will look to bounce back on Saturday when they compete in the third annual Oktoberfest Cup against the Pioneers of Carroll.
