Falcons Cook Cougars on Senior Day

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's lacrosse team improved to 6-0 over the Cougars at Fitting Field today with a 20-1 victory that pushed them to 8-5 on the season and 4-1 in the NACC.

The Falcons got it going early with seven goals in the first quarter. Freshman Max Esposito (Gaithersburg, Ma.) started the scoring with a goal at 14:27 in the first quarter off an assist from fellow freshman Chase Drexler (Vernon Hills, Ill.). Freshman Gio Nowotarski (Reading, Pa.) scored off the stick of senior Keijo Day (Esko, Minn.). Esposito paid back the favor with an assist to Chase Drexler for the third Falcon goal of the quarter.  

Day and Drexler connected for the fourth Falcon goal and Drexler's second assist of the matchup. 

Senior Kyle Fuller (Roseville, Minn.) netted his first goal of the afternoon with Keijo Day picking up his second assist to that point. Day Assisted another one for the Falcons' sixth goal with Esposito finding the back of the net. 

Day was able to score the last goal of the matchup with one-minute remaining off the stick of junior Matthew Sierzega (Grayslake, Ill.).

Drexler got the second quarter started with a goal and another assist from the senior Keijo Day

The Cougars snuck one past the goalie for the next goal but were not able to do so another time in the matchup.

Esposito and Day linked up again with two and a half minutes remaining in the half for the ninth Falcon goal of the afternoon. Day picked up his fifth assist of the afternoon.

With one-minute remaining, Keijo Day beat the shot clock and snuck one past the Cougar goaltender. 

This goal broke the record for the most goals in a single season.

The teams went into the break with a 10-1 Falcon lead.

It was all Falcons all day in the second half with seven more goals in the third quarter and three goals in the fourth. Junior Jack Gromosky (Danville, Ind.) got the quarter off the ground with a goal off the stick of Chase Drexler. Freshman Pat Ryan (Western Springs, Ill.) scored the second goal of the quarter and the 12th Falcon goal of the matchup off the stick of Keijo Day

Day broke another record with this assist as he became the program leader for career assists.

Day netted his fourth goal of the afternoon off the stick of sophomore Adam Verner (Portage, Mich.). 

Nowotarski and Day linked up with just under nine minutes left in the third for the 15th goal of the game and the 14th for the Falcons. Nowotarski netted his second of the matchup with that goal.

Freshman Griffin Bahr (Grand Rapids, Mich.) netted the second goal of his career with a ball that found the back of the net with a rare goalie assist from junior Evan Leden (Waukegan, Ill.).

Senior Jason Nordlie (Roscoe, Ill.) got in on the action with a goal with three and a half minutes remaining in the third quarter. Sophomore Dylan Loftus (Chicago, Ill.) netted his fifth goal of the season off the stick of Griffin Bahr.

The Falcons headed into the fourth quarter with a 17-1 lead.

Pat Ryan and Keijo Day connected for the man-up goal to kick off the fourth. Ryan picked up his second goal of the game with the man-up goal.

Freshman Alejandro Wundrock (West Bend, Wis.) netted the first goal of his young career with 3:08 left in the matchup off an assist from fellow freshman Hans Milchling (Cockeysville, Md.). Milchling also recorded an assist on the last goal of the matchup that came off the stick of Jack Gromosky with 1:57 left in the game.

On top of the two records he had already broken, Day's man-up assist broke the single-game record for total points that was set at 11 before the matchup. Day had four goals and eight assists on the afternoon which gave him a game-high 12 total points.  

Freshman Justin Kopp (Rochester, Minn.) led the Falcons with five saves in his 15 minutes in the net. 

Kopp came into the matchup with a high of two saves and broke that career-high today.

11 separate Falcons recorded goals with Day and Esposito leading the team with four and three goals respectively.  

The Falcons head to Aurora next Saturday for another NACC matchup.
