Falcons Torch Tornados

BREVARD, N.C. – The CUW men's lacrosse team started their Spring Break action with a bang at Brevard.

The Falcons scored eight unanswered goals that spanned the entire first half. The first goal was netted by freshman Gio Nowatarski (Reading, Pa.). The second of the first quarter came off the stick of senior Keijo Day (Esko, Minn.) and the third from senior Kyle Fuller (Roseville, Minn.). All three of the first quarter goals were unassisted.

Freshman Chase Drexler (Vernon Hills, Ill.) started the second quarter with a goal from fellow freshman Max Esposito (Gaithersburg, Md.). 

Esposito netted his first of two man-up goals just over two minutes later with a helper from Day.

The points just kept coming for the Falcons with Nowatarski netting his second of the afternoon off the stick of junior Jack Gromosky (Danville, Ind.) and freshman Griffin Bahr (Grand Rapids, Minn.) snagged his first with an assist to Keijo Day.

The final Falcon goal of the first half came from an unassisted goal by Keijo Day with 1:02 left in the half.

Fuller and Day connected 30 seconds into the third quarter to kick things off and give the Falcons their ninth goal of the afternoon. 

This was Fuller's second goal.

Freshman Hans Milchling (Cockeysville, Md.) netted his first goal of the matchup off the feed from Day.

The Tornados cut into the Falcon lead with a goal in the fourth minute of the third quarter.

Day netted his third goal just a minute later to push the lead back to double digits at 11-1.

Esposito found the back of the net for the second time from sophomore Adam Verner (Portage, Mich.) which gave the Falcons the 12-1 lead.

The eighth Falcon goal scorer, senior Chris Smith (South Elgin, Ill.), netted his first of the afternoon with 6:52 left in the third on an unassisted goal. Milchling netted another goal to push the lead to 14-1 off of a feed from sophomore Caleb Ruger (Grafton, Wis.).

Brevard scored their second of the game with 56 seconds left. 

The Falcons didn't let the Tornados have a foothold with a goal just 40 seconds later from Milchling for the third time. Verner picked up his second assist.

Senior Jason Nordlie (Roscoe, Ill.) pushed the lead to 14 to kick off the fourth quarter.

Brevard scored two unassisted goals to bring the score to 16-4 with 5:11 remaining in the game.

Junior Brayden Torp (Suamico, Wis.) scored his first goal of the season to push the lead back to 13.

Brevard responded with a man-down goal, but the Falcon used the same penalty t score a man-down goal from Esposito. This man-up goal was his second of the day which also gave Milchling his first assist.

Sophomore John Frangella (Chicago, Ill.) put a bow on the matchup with a goal inside the last 10 seconds to end the matchup 19-5.

The trio of Day, Milchling, and Esposito all recorded hat-tricks with Day also having four assists.

The Falcons head to Piedmont on Tuesday to finish up their Spring Break road trip.
