Calvin Clips CUW in Season Opener

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons could not warm up on a cold and blustery day on the shores of Lake Michigan. The Knights picked up a 13-8 victory to improve to 2-0 on the young season and send the Falcons to 0-1.

Senior Keijo Day (Esko, Minn.) opened the scoring 61 seconds into the contest on Saturday.

The Maroon and Gold then went on a 5-0 run to close the first quarter.

After Calvin added two more goals to start the second quarter, freshman Max Esposito (Gaithersburg, Md.) scored for the Falcons with 4:23 left in the second quarter. Freshman Pat Ryan (Western Spring, Ill.) scored two minutes later off a pass from Keijo Day.

The Knights held a 7-3 lead going into halftime.

Pat Ryan struck again for the lone Concordia goal in the third quarter off an assist from senior Kyle Fuller (Roseville, Minn.).

Keijo Day was the first player to find the back of the net in the fourth quarter and he struck again four minutes later to cut the deficit to 6-11.

Concordia scored two goals in the final two minutes off the sticks of Keijo Day and Pat Ryan.

Keijo Day finished with a game-high four goals in the afternoon.

Junior Adam Nichols (Meridian, Idaho) had 11 saves on Saturday.

Junior Jack Gromosky (Danville, Ind.) picked up a team-high five ground balls against Calvin.

The Falcons look to bounce back on Saturday against Monmouth.
