Falcons Rally at Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The rain cooled off the Falcons in the first quarter, but the Falcons quickly warmed up and picked up a NACC road victory. The 10-6 victory sends CUW to 7-5 and 3-1 in NACC play. The Falcons exacted revenge from last year's loss to the Sabres and improve to 3-1 against the Black and Blue.

Senior Kyle Fuller (Roseville, Minn.) started the scoring in the second minute of the game with a shot above the shoulder of the Marian keeper.

The Sabres responded with the next five goals of the game.

Junior Jack Gromosky (Danville, Ind.) stopped the skid when he stormed down the field and threw the ball in the back of the net with 11:39 left in the second quarter.

One minute later, freshman Gio Nowotarski (Reading, Pa.) also stormed down the field and found the back of the net.

Senior Keijo Day (Esko, Minn.) scored the next two goals to tie the game up at five.

The Sabres scored in the final minute in the second quarter to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.

Jack Gromosky tied the game in the third quarter when he ran past a pair of defenders and sent the ball past the right side of the keeper.

Off a lengthy delay, Jack Gromosky charged down the field and gave the Falcons a 7-6 lead.

Freshman Max Esposito (Gaithersburg, Md.) stuck a low shot past the Marian goalie after sophomore Dylan Loftus (Chicago, Ill.) ran the ball down the field.

Keijo Day blasted a low laser past his defender and into the net.

Freshman Chase Drexler (Vernon Hills, Ill.) crashed the net to start the scoring in the fourth quarter.

The CUW defense silenced the Sabres and did not allow a goal in the second half. The birds killed off both penalties on Wednesday night.

Junior Adam Nichols (Meridian, Idaho) vacuumed up 10 saves in the victory.

The Falcons won 12 of the 19 faceoffs against the Sabres, with junior Noah Brandt (Owatonna, Minn.) winning on 10 different occasions.

The CUW attack finished with 37 shots and 22 shots on goal. Keijo Day led the flock with six shots on goal.

CUW was led by Jack Gromosky, senior Jason Nordlie (Roscoe, Ill.) and junior Jason Borchert (Cottage Grove, Wis.) with five ground balls.

Concordia returns to action on Saturday when they will honor the seniors on senior day against the Cougars of Concordia Chicago.
