Falcons Fall Short at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – The CUW men's lacrosse team finished up their Spring Break trip with a matchup at Piedmont University.

The Falcons dominated the first quarter with goals from freshmen Max Esposito (Gaithersburg, Ma.) and Gio Nowatarski (Reading, Pa.) as well as senior Chris Smith (South Elgin, Ill.).

Sophomore Adam Verner (Portage, Mich.) assisted Nowatarski on his goal.

The Lions took over the second quarter with three quick goals to tie up the game.

Nowatarski netted his second of the evening to push the Falcons back up one at 4-3.

Piedmont answered back with a pair of man-up goals to take the 5-4 lead.

Esposito tied the game at five heading into halftime off the feed from sophomore Caleb Ruger (Grafton, Wis.).

Piedmont struck first in the third quarter, but the Falcons tied the game back up with a goal from freshman Pat Ryan (Western Springs, Ill.) off an assist from Ruger.

The Lions stormed out at the back end of the third quarter with three unanswered goals to take the 9-6 lead heading into the final frame.

Two Lion goals to start the fourth quarter put the game out of the Falcon reach with 11:38 left at 11-6.

The blue and white looked to mount a comeback with two goals off the sticks of senior Keijo Day (Esko, Minn.) as well as Esposito. Day assisted Esposito on the goal.

With that goal, Day surpassed the program record for career goals that was set at 123. That was Day's 124th goal of his career.

The Falcons fell 8-11 to the Lions.

The Falcons return to the nest and take on Hanover at Fitting Field on Saturday.
