Records set in Men's Lacrosse victory over Defiance

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin overpowered Defiance College on Sunday afternoon to earn a 22-0 victory in Midwest Lacrosse Conference play at Fitting Field. The Falcons set seven single game program records in the dominating win.

The 22 goals tied a program record, which the Falcons set during Saturday's 22-0 shutout over Hanover College. During Sunday's win, they set single game records in points (37), assists (15), shots (65), caused turnovers (24), faceoffs won (24) and tied the record for ground balls (51).

In the process sophomore Matt Larsen (Gurnee, Ill.) set a new career-high with six goals, while sophomore Derek Brueske (Hopkins, Minn.) assisted on a career-high five scores. Freshman Tyson Roe (Duncan, British Columbia) also set a new career best with three goals. In all, 12 players found the back of the net.

Freshman Danny Bundra (Lake Zurich, Ill.) was dominate in the faceoff circle, winning 24 opportunities and picking up 19 ground balls, both of which were new career bests.

As was the case Saturday against Hanover College, a collective effort was needed by the defense and those between the pipes to give CUW (7-3, 4-0 MLC) its second-consecutive shutout of the season. The Yellow Jackets (0-12, 0-6 MLC) were limited to just seven shots and freshman Thomas Mueller (Prior Lake, Minn.) made the Falcons only save.

Sophomore Christopher Grenz (Centennial, Colo.) finished second on the CUW roster with eight ground balls, which is a career high for the defender.

The Falcons won 24-of-26 faceoffs and double-digit shots in each period, including 21 in the second frame. They also caused 24 of the Yellow Jackets 36 turnovers.

CUW returns to action on Wednesday for a much-anticipated showdown with Aurora University at 4 p.m. at Vago Field.
