Krause scores five goals, Men's Lacrosse downs Fontbonne

ST LOUIS – Justin Krause scored five goals to lead Concordia University Wisconsin to a 12-9 Midwest Lacrosse Conference victory over Fontbonne University on Saturday. The Falcons finished a perfect 5-for-5 on extra-man opportunities at Centene Stadium.

The win was the fourth consecutive for CUW (5-2, 2-0 MLC) and moved them into a first-place tie with Aurora University in the MLC standings. The Falcons held a 34-20 lead in ground balls and won 15-of-23 faceoff attempts.

Krause's five goals and six total points were both new single game career highs for the junior from Hartland, Wis. Freshmen Marino Best (Naniamo, British Columbia) and Tyson Roe (Duncan, British Columbia) each added three goals and Best recorded two assists.

CUW opened the game with five goals, three by Krause and two by Roe. The Falcons outshot the Griffins 13-6 in the game's first 15 minutes. FU (4-3, 0-1 MLC) tallied five of the contest's next six goals to cut its deficit to 6-5 with 1:50 to play in the third quarter.

The Falcons quickly took advantage of a Griffins two-minute non-releasable penalty for an illegal crosse to the head with three goals during a one minute and 15 second span to increase their lead back to 11-5 and take control.

Roe scored CUW's final goal with 9:04 to play before FU marked four goals on the scoreboard to end the contest, the final two being an extra-man tallies.

The Falcons return to action on Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. home non-conference matchup against Beloit College at Fitting Field.
